Slice Of Life

Slice Of Life, is a Weblog (BLOG) that I write, in which I try to tell some sort of story about something, or someone in my life. Sometimes it's happy, sometimes not, sometimes informative, sometimes...... HA, gotcha, did ya think that I was going to say not? Don't know me very well, do ya? :=) I will try to update the BLOG from time to time, whenever I can.

My personality is outgoing, I use to be a wallflower, until I realized that it was all the outgoing people that were having the most fun. It was a tough conversion, but nobody I know today would even remotely consider me to be a wallflower. Basically, when I was young, my parents taught me that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything. I haven't quite found the "anything" part to be always true, but it has inspired me to always try to do, and be, my best.

Thoughts On A Visit From The Family

  • Cousin Erika and Cousin In-Law Rich, flew here out west for a visit over Memorial Weekend. It was really nice to see them again, since their wedding was the last time I saw them. They haven't changed a bit. Good thing.
  • I was tempted to do a "Super Duper Mr. Clean" on the house, including the whole carpet shampoo thing, in order to impress them. Fortunately I laid down on my bed until that feeling went away.
  • Erika finally got to see that wall art, that I purchased with the gift certificate that she and Kay gave me the last time she visited.... 9 years ago. I think fondly about her every time I look at it.
  • Julie Dog was in ecstasy at having company for an extended stay, especially since she was able to con the both of them into participating in her favorite activity..... ear and tummy rubs.
  • I finally got to see the Phoenix Historic Museum downtown. Now I know the early history of where I live. I feel sooooooo smart.
  • Going up to Sedona, and staying overnight, and doing the Grand Canyon the second day, was WAY better then the rush rush, do it all in 1 day, method that was used "last time".
  • We did the "Pink Jeep" tour in Sedona, and the "Yellow Jeep" tour at the Canyon. That was also better then the, "go it alone" method. The Yellow Jeep guide also reminded me of one of the members of ZZ Top.
  • Did you know that there is a "back way" into the Grand Canyon, that avoids that 2+ hour line at the normal Park Main Entrance, and also takes you through the Kibab forest? I didn't know that either. I do now.
  • Did you know that there are hundreds of different kinds of cactus in the desert, or that the green bark on desert trees, allows them to do photo-synthisis through the bark? Amazing what you learn touring the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens.
  • When I grew up back east, I thought I knew what "real" Mexican food was like. I didn't, but I do now, after living here for 11 years.
  • We didn't even consider going to an Indian Casino. Not even once.
  • The one regret I had, was I didn't get to show off my Karaoke skills for them. Oh well, sacrifices sometimes have to be made.
  • You know how they say time flys when you're having fun? It doesn't just fly, it goes at warp speed.
  • I'm so glad they came. And just in case I forgot to mention it..... a revisit invitation is happily extended..... Anytime :-)
